Under the general supervision of the Electrical Supervisor the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots electronic equipment. Must be able to read and interpret electronic and electrical drawings. Maintains, services, and repairs other electrical and various mechanical equipment. Works with repair crews by spotting, isolating, and disconnecting equipment to facilitate repair work. All other duties assigned by the Electrical Supervisor.

Overview

Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians are responsible for repairing, servicing, and maintaining all electronic equipment throughout MCC operations while complying with all applicable mining regulations and/or MCC policies at all times. Basic qualifications and/or traits that the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician must possess include:

  • Electrical knowledge and aptitude. A basic knowledge of instrumentation and/or ability to learn instrumentation and electrical repairs.
  • Have basic knowledge of computers and the ability to learn programming.
  • Have reliable safety & attendance records.
  • Be able to work without constant supervision.
  • Be able to give and take direction.
Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety inspections of working area shall be performed a minimum of once per shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be required as conditions warrant.
  • The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all electronic equipment throughout MCC operations.
    • Routing maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation. Use of portable test equipment and internal test modules to locate, isolate, and repaid malfunctions. Replacement of defective components.
    • Performance of routine inspections and preventive maintenance of controls and instrumentation, records, gas analyzers, automatic weight devices and other similar equipment to ensure continuous, accurate operation.
    • Install new electrical and electronic equipment such as control devices, recorders, indicating instruments, SCR drives, programable controllers, etc. during new construction, and/or machinery revisions/updates/replacements.
  • The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for performing housekeeping duties in his work area to remove slip/trip/fall hazards. Work activities must be performed while adhering to all applicable state/federal regulations and MCC policies at all times.
