Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing clerical support for department operations.

Major Duties

* Processes and distributes incoming mail.

* Delivers mail to the Post Office.

* Verifies the taxpayer's motor vehicle insurance.

* Types, files, sorts, faxes, copies, and prints documents.

* Monitors lobby and direct taxpayers to available tellers.

* Keeps computerized records of handicap plate and placard applications.

* Receives and signs for merchandise ordered.

* Assists customers in replacing vehicle registration stickers and license plates.

* Assists with the printing of tax statements.

* Assists with stamping and mailing tax statements.

* Assists with inventory control.

* Assists in hauling, sorting, and stacking boxes.

* Retrieves old documents for research purposes.

* Shreds documents as appropriate.

* Sorts license plate inventory.

* Serves as Passport Agent as needed.

* Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

* Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.

* Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

* Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.

* Skill in the use of standard office equipment.

* Skill in oral and written communication.

* Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

Minimum Qualifications

* Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.

* Minimum of one ( 1 ) year of clerical work experience.

* Must be able to type at least 30 wpm.

Complexity/Scope of Work

* The work consists of related clerical duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of

the position.

* The purpose of this position is to provide clerical support for department operations. Successful

performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Occasionally

* Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.

* Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

* Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.

* Adjusting or moving objects up to 25 pounds in all directions.

* Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

* Operating machinery and/or power tools.

* Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

* Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.

* Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.

Constantly

* Communicating with others to exchange information.

* Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

* Working in noisy environments.

* Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

* Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

* Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

Other Requirements/Information

* Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.

* The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug/and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.

* This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.

Valid Texas Driver's License
* * If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.
