Job Summary

Revised and Reposted: 7/16/2026. This position is responsible for providing clerical support for departmental operations.

Major Duties
  • Processes and distributes incoming mail.
  • Delivers mail to the post office.
  • Verifies the taxpayer's motor vehicle insurance.
  • Types, files, sorts, faxes, copies, and prints documents.
  • Monitors the lobby and directs taxpayers to available tellers.
  • Maintains computerized records of handicap plate and placard applications.
  • Receives and signs for ordered merchandise.
  • Assists customers with replacing vehicle registration stickers and license plates.
  • Assists with the printing of tax statements.
  • Assists with stamping and mailing tax statements.
  • Assists with inventory control.
  • Assists in hauling, sorting, and stacking boxes.
  • Retrieves archived documents for research purposes.
  • Shreds documents as appropriate.
  • Sorts the license plate inventory.
  • Serves as a Passport Agent as needed.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job‑related software programs.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the use of standard office equipment.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clerical work experience.
  • Must be able to type at least 30 wpm.
Complexity/Scope of Work
  • The work consists of related clerical duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide clerical support for department operations. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.
Physical Demands/Work Environment

Occasionally

  • Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 25 pounds in all directions.
  • Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.
  • Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Working in noisy environments.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
Other Requirements/Information
  • Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
  • The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
  • This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, it is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
Valid Texas Driver’s License

Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license. If the applicant holds an out‑of‑state license, a State of Texas Driver’s License must be obtained prior to employment.
