Mission:
Laredo Main Street's mission is to revitalize downtown Laredo by promoting local businesses, preserving historic buildings, and hosting fun events- celebrating our city's history while fostering economic growth and a vibrant downtown!

Community Work-Study Program:
The Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non-profit organizations that serve the public interest.

Goals of this program include:

  • Develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and be assigned to local non-profit, government, or community-based organizations.
  • Apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom.
  • Enhance career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership.
  • Articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning, setting up, and coordinating Farmers Market events.
  • Communicate event details and requirements to participating vendors.
  • Help organize vendor placement and event layouts.
  • Support event-day operations and assist vendors and attendees as needed.
  • Promote events through social media, outreach, and community engagement.
  • Answer phone calls, manage emails, and respond to general questions.
  • Maintain organized files, records, vendor information, and event materials.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and preparing materials for events and presentations.
  • Monitor office supplies and assist with supply requests.
  • Update the Laredo Main Street website with current events, programs, and news.
  • Upload flyers, photos, announcements, and other website content.
  • Review the website for outdated information or technical issues.
  • Assist Laredo Main Street staff with other administrative and event-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work professionally with vendors, staff, and community members.
  • Basic knowledge of social media and website updates.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to organize files, records, and event materials.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks on time.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and remain organized.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to assist with event setup and community activities.
  • Dependable, responsible, and professional.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates students.
  • Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent residence, or has an alien registration number. An eligible non-citizen.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Other Requirements:

  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
  • Promptly complete all required training.
  • Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Must have a reliable transportation.
  • Subject to funding and/or need.

Rate of Pay: $10.00/hour for up to 15 hours weekly
