Job Summary / Description

KGNS+ is looking for a dynamic weekend anchor/multimedia journalist to join our newsroom. The ideal candidate will anchor and co‑produce our English weekend evening newscasts and reports three days per week.

This candidate will anchor our evening weekend newscasts and work as a multimedia journalist 3 days out of the week. As the weekend anchor, you are responsible for overseeing and assisting the producer on all aspects of the newscast/s including: stacking the rundown, writing copy for stories, ordering graphics to fit stories, coordinating live shots with directors, and directing production staff, reporters & photographers.

Duties

/ Responsibilities
  • Prioritizes, organizes, and produces newscasts following the station brand and goals
  • Responsible for writing clearly, concisely, and very conversationally
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current events, community issues, and contacts
  • Come to morning/afternoon meetings with enterprise story ideas each day
  • Accuracy in video editing, using visual elements and graphics that make stories understandable to the viewer
  • Develop original story ideas for daily newscasts
  • Work with management on story treatment and accurately gather information for news stories under deadline pressure
  • Act as a leader in facilitating teamwork among staff members working on daily newscasts
  • Handle the decision‑making process accurately and calmly, especially in the control room
  • Write and post stories and videos to the station's digital platforms
  • Regularly produce news documentaries, cut‑ins, and other special programs, as assigned
  • Participate in editorial meetings and make decisions on the same day and the next day's content
Qualifications / Requirements
  • A college degree in journalism or a related field is required
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be insurable
  • Initiative and attention to detail are required
  • Be able to write clearly and accurately; great grammar!
  • Must be able to work well under sometimes intense pressure and tight deadlines
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that works well with co‑workers, supervisors, and viewers
  • Keep up with national and local news/weather
  • Enter prize local hard‑news stories
  • Computer knowledge, including newsroom software, Microsoft applications, and Internet use
  • Produce newscasts, including stacking, writing scripts, editing copy, ordering graphics to fit stories, making maps, coordinating live shots with directors, production staff, reporters & photographers
  • Edit video and audio
  • Carry camera equipment (about 15–20 LB.)
