Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Career Navigator is responsible for recruiting, advising, and supporting participants in the Pathways to Success Center, guiding them toward successful transitions into higher education or the workforce. This includes providing information and assistance on admissions, financial aid, scholarships, registration, educational programs, course planning, career services, and other support resources through presentations, individual advising, and collaboration with partner organizations. The Career Navigator also oversees the distribution and tracking of high school equivalency vouchers to ensure compliance with grant requirements.

This is a grant‑funded position. Two positions are available, one at the Ft. McIntosh campus and one at the South campus.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with external agencies and community organizations to connect participants with support services and resources.
  • Partner with Laredo College departments to refer potential participants and provide comprehensive information, guidance, and program support.
  • Work individually with participants to support retention, goal setting, and progress toward educational and career objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with faculty, staff, and participants to identify barriers to success and develop strategies to overcome them.
  • Monitor participant attendance and engagement, intervening with support, guidance, or referrals as needed for those with excessive absences or tardiness.
  • Provide ongoing advisement and support to participants throughout their program participation.
  • Offer guidance on career exploration, workforce readiness, and postsecondary education opportunities, assisting participants in transitioning successfully into employment or further education.
  • Inform participants of campus and community resources available to support their academic, career, and personal development.
  • Oversee the distribution and tracking of high school equivalency (HSE) vouchers to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
  • Assist with the collection of participant data; utilize information to track progress toward grant objectives and prepare required reports for compliance.
  • Participate in professional developments as required by TWC and in Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Dean of Community Education, Associate Provost/South Campus Administrator, Vice President/Provost of Academic Affairs, and/or President.
Required Documents

Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and/or Sociology
  • At least one year of experience in academic/career advising, and/or counseling.
  • A valid Texas Driver’s License.
Preferred
  • At least one year of experience working with adult learners.
Additional Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form (English/Spanish).
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with LC faculty/staff, participants, and partner organizations.
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative, concerned for the welfare of the program and program participants.
  • Ability to accept responsibility for assigned tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
