Student Tutor (LP) Agency – Texas A&M International University Department Literacy Partnership

Location:

Laredo, Texas | Job Type: Student Worker | Salary: $10.50 per hour (up to 19 hours weekly)

Tutors will work at local elementary schools to provide tutoring services to early elementary children one on one.

• Conduct tutoring sessions in which each student is actively involved in exploring and learning the material.
• Review course concepts, provide alternate explanations, and offer multiple strategies for reviewing and reinforcing information.
• Help students to identify resources and to develop problem‑solving strategies they can use when studying on their own.
• Other related duties as assigned.

• Collect and submit data to the LTPR at the end of the semester.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and meetings.
• Maintain literacy center inventory.
• Participate in occasional recruiting events.

• Enrolled at least half‑time (6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates).
• Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
• Meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
• International undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours to meet federal immigration guidelines.
• International graduate students must enroll in at least 9 semester credit hours to meet federal immigration guidelines.

Students who will be graduating may enroll for less than half time for their final semester. Must submit proof of graduation.

• College of Education major.
• Tutoring experience.

• Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.
• Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.
• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.
• Problem analysis and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.

• Position requires on‑campus, face‑to‑face interactions.

• Submit time sheet biweekly.
• Position is temporary, subject to funding and/or need.
• TB screening.
• Reliable transportation to travel to assigned school.
