Job Summary
The Financial Aid Advisor II, under direction, counsels and provides student financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families, facilitates workshops, develops and makes presentations on and off campus, and may coordinate a specific program. They may provide mentorship and training to other staff.
Salary: $19.06 hourly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Advises and counsels students, parents, and prospective students in solving educational financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, employment, and financial counseling.
- Responds to and researches questions and counseling needs; provides loan and indebtedness counseling.
- Assists outreach staff with prospective students and assists them in their transition to current students.
- Reviews student files, collects supporting documentation, and makes adjustments; awards, revises, or approves financial aid according to program policy and guidelines.
- Handles compliance adjustments, submits corrections, reviews appeals, decides on appeal validity, and notifies students of steps needed to re‑establish eligibility.
- Greets visitors, answers questions, serves as a backup or walk‑in counselor on a weekly basis.
- Provides assistance and guidance to staff to ensure processing activities adhere to policies and procedures.
- Assists with presentations, seminars, workshops, and professional development training.
- Assists in planning and executing special events.
- Participates in review, revision, and interpretation of complex rules, regulations, procedures, and policies.
- Interprets federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assists in developing and revising financial aid information, materials, publications, and brochures.
- Might coordinate or serve as a resource for a specialized financial aid program.
- Serves as a regularly scheduled Cisco queue phone agent, responds to office emails, and assists with front‑counter coverage in the main reception area of the department.
- Prepares weekly reports to adjust student files and works with other departments on program reconciliation.
- Education – Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience – One year of related experience.
- Knowledge of word‑processing and spreadsheet applications, financial aid counseling, verification, and rules and regulations.
- Ability to multitask, work cooperatively, communicate orally and in writing, provide customer service, work individually or as a team, organize, make decisions, and relate well with the student population.
- Requires some evening and weekend work; on‑campus, face‑to‑face interactions.
- Must maintain a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
