Job Type and SalaryStudent Worker – $10.50 hourly (up to 19 hours weekly)
Job SummaryThe Biology tutor will assist program students to improve their knowledge in Biology or related areas while also performing clerical duties and maintaining records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Handles routine office inquiries from employees and students.
- Assists in the day‑to‑day maintenance and responsibilities of the assigned department.
- Performs clerical functions, including answering phones, filing, scheduling, and organizing.
- Maintains written and electronic records, ensuring confidentiality.
- Participates in ongoing tutor training activities.
- Prepares reports and develops PowerPoint workshops.
- Tutor individuals and groups in Biology or related areas.
- Facilitate learning of course material and model effective learning and study strategies.
- Keep office hours at the TRiO office.
- Enrolled at least half‑time (6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates and 3 credit hours for graduates).
- Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
- Meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
- Eligible for Federal and State Work Study (if applicable) and must maintain enrollment guidelines.
- Proficiency in use of a personal computer workstation with common software applications.
- Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.
- Outstanding customer service and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Problem analysis and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.
Roles may require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and use a computer. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Other Requirements- Position requires on‑campus, face‑to‑face interactions.
- Maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace, coordinated with the department scheduling.
- Promptly complete required training.
- Submit time sheet biweekly.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
