Position: Visiting Assistant Professor of Music (Director of Bands)

Job Summary

Visiting Assistant Professor of Music (Director of Bands) at Texas A&M International University, commencing Fall 2026. This 9‑month faculty position entails leading the undergraduate Symphonic Band, teaching music courses, advising students, and serving the department, college, and university community.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the undergraduate Symphonic Band and other ensemble performances.
  • Teach undergraduate music courses with a teaching load of 15 semester credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring).
  • Advisory and mentoring of students, including academic and professional guidance.
  • Engage in recruiting efforts to grow and promote the band program, enhancing visibility, enrollment, and participation in performances and festivals.
  • Attend faculty meetings and contribute to department, college, and university service.
  • Participate in community and professional outreach that supports recruitment and elevates the Symphonic Band and music program.
  • Maintain regular on‑campus presence with face‑to‑face interactions.
Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate (DMA or PhD) in Conducting, Music Education, or a closely related field, earned by the start of the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and ensemble leadership.
  • Ability to direct a collegiate band and recruit students, mentors, and alumni.
  • Commitment to student recruitment, mentoring, and service.
  • Significant experience directing collegiate bands and developing instrumental programs.
  • Ability to engage in community and regional outreach to support recruitment and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
