The Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non‑profit organizations that serve the public interest. The program aims to develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU, assign students to local non‑profit, government, or community‑based organizations, apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom, enhance career competencies such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication and leadership, and articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic and professional pursuits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in the management of coworking and office spaces, ensuring a professional and supportive environment for clients.
- Support the development and execution of business growth and startup initiatives, including workshops, seminars and networking events.
- Engage with clients to understand their needs and provide relevant resources and guidance.
- Contribute to marketing and communication efforts to promote Mile One’s services and success stories.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including scheduling, data entry and report preparation, to ensure smooth program operations.
- Enrollment at least half‑time (6 credit hours/semester for undergraduate, 3 credit hours/semester for graduate).
- Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
- Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
- Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or have an alien registration number; must meet all TAMIU SAPP requirements.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanor.
- Interest in economic development, business growth and entrepreneurship.
- Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team player.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with marketing tools and social media is a plus.
- Previous experience in a business environment or customer service is preferred but not required.

Other Requirements- Work schedules must not conflict with class schedule.
- Promptly complete all required training.
