Position: CAMPUS COUNSELOR-COLLEGE & CAREER

Job Goal

Under the direction of the Dean of College and Career, the counselor will work with school faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community to plan, develop, and provide support for the campus college and career readiness and transition programs. The counselor will act as a mentor by establishing strong relationships with students and parents to support them during their postsecondary education.

Counselors will support students from freshman year of high school through the first two years of postsecondary (9‑14), maintaining a year‑round support system that includes individualized support during school days and summer to prepare them for a 4‑year college or university.

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching or counseling experience (Preferred).
  • High school teaching experience (Preferred).
  • Valid Texas Counseling Certification (Preferred).
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understand and support the mission, vision, and values of Harmony Public Schools.
  • Provide college and career counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information and offer workshops/seminars for parents.
  • Create access to college resources and opportunities for students through one‑on‑one and small group meetings.
  • Provide individual student planning and responsive services to support students and families regarding academic matters.
  • Assist in scheduling and providing information about curriculum offerings in the program of studies to staff, students, and parents.
  • Develop and implement curriculum that supports students’ exploration of career alternatives and helps them understand the college application process.
  • Assist students throughout the college and financial aid application process within the timeline and expectations set by the district.
  • Advise and coach all students through the financial aid process.
  • Provide feedback and recommend appropriate actions and solutions to individual students’ academic and educational needs and abilities.
  • Guide students and others in understanding and utilizing Schoo Links, the college admission data management system.
  • Provide guidance, resources, and tools to navigate the college search and application process.
  • Implement, support, and maintain college transition services and activities to enhance the college matriculation process, including orientation, early‑alert strategies, data collection and analysis, and transition programming.
  • Provide additional support for alumni to ensure a smooth transition from high school to postsecondary education:
    • Maintain contact with select high‑school graduates, providing guidance and problem‑solving as needed.
    • Assist students who are not matriculated into a postsecondary endeavor with college/career advising.
    • Assist with alumni data tracking.
  • Prevent summer‑melt problems by supporting seniors during the summer via text messages, phone calls, home visits, orientation events, and booth camps.
  • Support alumni during their first two years at postsecondary and organize events to stay connected.
  • Track and support alumni financial aid applications during their first two years at the postsecondary level.
  • Create opportunities such as mentoring and networking events to connect students with campus alumni for best practices in sharing college and career aspirations and future plans.
  • Support campus college and career partnership efforts to create career development opportunities for students.
  • Organize transitional programs, activities, and workshops for seniors to prepare them for postsecondary education and career.
  • Organize campus alumni‑led college and career panels and talks to increase high‑school students’ college and career identity.
  • Prepare and disseminate materials regarding college transition and matriculation; coordinate the matriculation process across the campus.
  • Work effectively as a member of the College and Career team at the campus and attend all required meetings.
  • Maintain a collaborative team with consistent communication flow to all key stakeholders and teammates.
