Job Summary
Will assist the teacher in carrying out the educational, recreational, and social programs planned for children.
Major DutiesWill attend lectures, conferences, and other educational programs as directed for her/his development and growth as an aide.
Will be alert to the needs of each child in providing for their health and welfare.
Will maintain the classroom in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
Will be required to rotate to centers as needs arise.
Will assist with all classroom responsibilities in the absence of the teacher and teacher aide.
Responsible for making the morning bus trip only on an emergency basis.
Will perform other related duties as needed.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:- Preferably, some college education (child development / early childhood courses / or experience working with preschool children).
- Be bilingual and have experience working with preschool-age children.
- Maintain all local, state, and federal guidelines for the position on an annual basis.
Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
- Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Adjusting or moving objects weighing 30-40 pounds in all directions.
- Working in low temperatures.
- Working in high temperatures.
- Working in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
- Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
- Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
Constantly
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Working in noisy environments.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol and criminal background checks are required.
- Must have a driver's license and insurable transportation. If no Driver's license, must obtain within 3 months.
- This position is not covered by Civil Service; therefore, it is subject to all the Webb County Policies and the Webb County Head Start addendum.
