Dean of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a dynamic, forward‑thinking, and collaborative leader to advance the Killam Library’s mission in support of teaching, learning, research, and scholarship.

The Dean, under general direction of the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, serves as chief administrative and strategic leader for all library programs, services, and facilities.

• Provide visionary leadership for the Killam Library and its team of 20 full‑time staff and approximately 20 part‑time student workers.
• Oversee personnel matters—recruitment, staffing, performance management, employee development—consistent with university policies and equal‑employment‑opportunity requirements.
• Manage an annual budget of $2.6 million, and direct all library operations, including finance, facilities, user services, technology, automated systems, strategic planning, assessment, marketing, and public relations.
• Initiate a needs assessment and implement a plan for content acquisition, cataloging, classification, circulation, and collaborative agreements.
• Seek external funding and write grant proposals for library programs, facilities, and collections.
• Coordinate the development and implementation of library programs and services to meet the needs of students and faculty.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient daily operations and long‑term quality improvement.
• Foster collaboration and partnership opportunities within the library, campus, community, and other institutions.
• Integrate emerging technologies, including AI, into library services.
• Support scholarly activities of faculty and librarians.
• Participate in resource‑sharing consortia and work with Texas A&M University System library leaders on common goals.
• Direct facilities planning to provide optimal working and learning environments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

A salary of $150,000 to $160,000 is available based on experience. Relocation assistance to Laredo, Texas is available.

• Master’s degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA‑accredited program.
• Progressive administrative experience in an academic library setting.

• Eight years of library experience, including managerial roles.
• Additional advanced degree (second master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent).
• Five or more years of senior library leadership experience.
• Active engagement in professional associations.
• Experience with library advocacy at local, state, national, and international levels.
• Demonstrated technology integration and digital resource leadership.
• Knowledge of electronic resources, library technologies, and automated systems.
• Successful strategic planning and assessment of library programs and services.
• Awareness of current issues and innovations in academic librarianship.
• Ability to foster a collaborative, accountable, and productive team environment.
• Experience with Open Educational Resources and Open Textbooks.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
