Job Summary

Assists the teacher in implementing educational, recreational, and social activities planned for children.

Major Duties
  • Attend lectures, conferences, and other educational programs as directed to support professional development and growth as an aide.
  • Remains attentive to each child's needs and assists in promoting their health, safety, and welfare.
  • Maintains the classroom in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Rotates to assigned centers as program needs arise.
  • Assists with classroom responsibilities in the absence of the teacher and the teacher aide.
  • Operates the morning bus route only on an emergency basis, as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferably, some college education (child development / early childhood courses / or experience working with preschool children).
  • Be bilingual and have experience working with preschool-age children.
  • Maintain all local, state, and federal guidelines for the position on an annual basis.
Supplemental Information

Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
  • Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting or moving objects weighing 30-40 pounds in all directions.
  • Working in low temperatures.
  • Working in high temperatures.
  • Working in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

Constantly

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Working in noisy environments.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
Other Requirements/Information
  • Must have a Texas Driver's License and must provide proof of vehicle insurance.
  • The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
  • This position is not covered by Civil Service; therefore, it is subject to all the Webb County Policies and the Webb County Head Start addendum.
