- Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or bridge inspection.
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Coordinates with other engineers in the district and with the Materials and Pavements Section concerning material testing, specifications and material failures.
- Designs new pavements and overlays or reviews related activities.
- Develops and oversees laboratory and/or geotechnical consultant contracts.
- Travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
- Investigates roadway material failures and recommends solutions.
- Oversees district laboratory operations and monitors material testing requirements and results for compliance with specifications.
- Oversees the quality monitoring program for local material sources.
- Participates in district plan review activities.
- Establishes, modifies or interprets applicable standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.
- Makes technical presentations and instructs departmental courses.
- Responsible for the District Quality Assurance Program.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Education
:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science; bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. - Experience
: 4 years experience in transportation engineering (full time or prorated part time equivalent); related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. - Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience; project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
- Licenses and Certifications
:
Valid US driver’s license (required for driving a state vehicle); licensed professional engineer in another state must meet Texas licensing requirements within six months of hire and sign agreement. - Construction engineering policies and procedures; applicable testing methods, processes and procedures; pavement maintenance; materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance; pavement design and management processes and procedures; materials design, specifications and applications; conducting laboratory tests; supervising technical staff; prioritizing and organizing work assignments; communicating effectively; exercising logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; making decisions that support business objectives and goals.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; subject to random drug testing.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
- Subject to noise and vibration.
- Medium work: lifting up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lifting or carrying objects up to 25 lbs.
