Job Summary
Responsible for supervising the day‑to‑day operations of a water treatment plant.
Major Duties- Direct the day‑to‑day operation of the water treatment plant.
- Operate equipment to control water flow and maintain proper operating levels.
- Service, maintain, operate, and repair facilities and equipment including large‑scale pumping devices, chlorination and other chemical feed systems, storage facilities, and related equipment.
- Collect samples; perform laboratory analyses to ensure treatment facilities are operating efficiently; supervise and carry out corrective actions.
- Train, assign, supervise, evaluate, and discipline personnel.
- Make rounds of plants; read gauges and meters; record readings.
- Purchase equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Maintain maintenance and chemical analysis records; prepare logs, records, and reports, including required local, state, and federal reports.
- Prioritize job assignments for subordinates.
- Respond to after‑hours emergencies.
- Attend required training classes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of water treatment principles, operations, and equipment.
- Knowledge of computers and job‑related software programs.
- Knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, hydraulics, and biology.
- Knowledge of department and county policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electronic equipment.
- Skill in planning, organization, and decision‑making.
- Skill in supervising personnel.
- Skill in thinking clearly under difficult circumstances.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to communicate in English and speak Spanish.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least one year of related experience.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a state‑certified license for water or wastewater treatment or distribution, as appropriate.
- Valid and current Texas driver’s license (or obtain one if holding an out‑of‑state license).
- Pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing, MVR check, and criminal background check required.
- This position is covered by Civil Service rules and county policies.
Occasionally:
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles.
- Moving in various positions, including tight and confined spaces.
- Standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Moving between work sites.
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds.
- Repeating motions of wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Operating machinery or power tools.
- Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Driving a county vehicle or personal vehicle for county business.
- Working in low or high temperatures.
- Working in outdoor weather conditions, noise, hazardous, and poor ventilation environments.
- Working in small or enclosed spaces and adverse environmental conditions.
- Light work up to 20 pounds and medium work up to 50 pounds.
