We are seeking a Transportation Engineer based in Laredo, TX, to support construction contracting and project delivery across eight counties within the TxDOT Laredo District.

• Transportation Engineer II (B25): $69,572 - $114,099
• Transportation Engineer III (B26): $76,530 - $129,430
• Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $84,182 - $142,374

• Assist Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
• Oversee construction and audit records.
• Oversee construction project traffic control plans and review traffic control devices.
• Travel to project sites for on‑site engineering reviews, analyses, and technical support.
• Monitor consultants’ progress and work quality; check invoices and documents; prepare supplemental agreements.
• Monitor contractor compliance with plans and specifications.
• Resolve differences between contractors and inspectors.
• Review construction related to operations.
• Review shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements, and change‑order requests.
• Use the department’s Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule and resource‑management tool for scheduling and resource management of projects.
• Analyze and report on complex program funding change scenarios and impacts on project schedules.
• Analyze schedule trends, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions to management.
• Assess actual project progress versus planned progress, identifying trends and variances.
• Assist Project Managers in establishing realistic schedule baselines.
• Monitor and inspect contracted work sites.
• Recommend best practices for CPM scheduling, budgeting, resourcing, and baseline management.
• Serve as a consultant to staff engineers on construction operations coordination.
• Analyze and assist in resolving contract problems and disputes.
• Chair or serve on contract selection teams.
• Conduct final inspections of completed construction projects.
• Coordinate and monitor consultant contract‑related projects.
• Oversee final acceptance of federally exempt construction projects.
• Perform advanced planning tasks such as plan reviews, calculations, and transportation planning studies.

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related science. A higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

5 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience for Transportation Engineer II; 6 years for III; 7 years for IV.

• Valid U.S. driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas or, if licensed in another U.S. state, must obtain a Texas PE license within six months of hire and sign an agreement.
