Position Information

Join the TxDOT Laredo District as a Hydraulic / Bridge Engineer and help shape transportation solutions in one of the nation’s busiest inland ports. In Laredo District, highways, international bridges, freight corridors, and local connections come together to move people, commerce, and opportunity across South Texas and beyond. Salary Range for each position level
Transportation Engineer II B25, $69,572 - $114,099
Transportation Engineer III B26, $76,530 - $129,430
Transportation Engineer IV B27, $84,182 - $142,374

Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

  • Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
  • Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters
  • Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
  • Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.
  • Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.
  • Designs complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.
  • Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters.
  • Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and closing for transportation projects.
  • Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.
  • Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience:

5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
