Dispatcher, G109, Sheriff's Department

This position receives and processes 911 calls, coordinates emergency dispatch services, and communicates with other agencies to ensure an appropriate response to emergencies.

• Monitors radio communications and maintains contact with all units while on assignment, and monitors unit safety status and locations.
• Receives and processes 911 emergency and non-emergency calls and determines the nature and location of emergencies.
• Provides guidance and assistance to victims and victims’ families during emergencies.
• Operates the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to enter, update, and retrieve information.
• Receives and processes vehicle registration requests, driving records, and warrant information.
• Enters, modifies, cancels, and clears warrants.
• Monitors assigned building surveillance systems.
• Monitors gate operations to ensure authorized access.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and local ordinances.
• Knowledge of county and department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) procedures, policies, and rules.
• Knowledge of streets and roads within Webb County.
• Knowledge of fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) dispatch procedures.
• Skill in effectively operating telephones, radios, and computer systems in stressful situations.
• Skill in planning, organizing, analyzing, decision-making, and problem-solving.
• Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
• Skill in dealing professionally and effectively with individuals experiencing a range of emotions.
• Skill in preparing correspondence and administrative reports.
• Ability to multitask effectively.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

• Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of work experience.

• The work consists of related dispatch duties. The need to respond to emergencies contributes to the position's complexity.
• This position dispatches personnel in response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Successful performance contributes to the department's efficient and effective response to emergencies.

• Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 25 pounds in all directions.
• Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.

• Must possess a valid and current Texas Driver's License.
• The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
• This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
