Responsibilities
The Medical Office Specialist (MOS) is responsible for front desk coverage for the medical practice which includes registration, check-in, collecting co-pays, scheduling appointments, billing patients, and scanning records into EMR, reports, and correspondence. The MOS possesses medical terminology knowledge, organization and communication skills, ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions, and professional appearance, all while maintaining a calm disposition, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Reliable, tactful, honest and discreet in maintaining confidentiality at all times. Must be able to carry out specific assignments to successful conclusion.
- Assist with daily clerical operations, including answering multi-phone lines and making copies of documents as necessary.
- Accurately files patient charts; including scanning documents into files as necessary.
- Schedules patient appointments as necessary, return visits and Specialists.
- Pre-authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) as necessary.
- Other Duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Office Assistant/Specialist program or Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or one year experience as a Medical Assistant or Medical Office Specialist, preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology required.
- Experience with patient check-in and check-out process (according to clinic protocol).
