Professional Counselor II Agency Texas A&M International University Department Kate Marmion Counseling Center

Job Summary

The Professional Counselor II, under general supervision, provides multiculturally competent mental health counseling and outreach to individuals, couples, and groups. May provide adjunct supervision for graduate students in counseling, counseling psychology, and graduate assistants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides mental health counseling as well as crisis intervention to individuals, couples, and groups.
  • Meets ethical obligations for timely documentation of counseling services per State of Texas licensure requirements and Counseling & Psychological Services policies.
  • Engages in counseling related activities including administering and interpreting psychological tests/inventories, making referrals, and managing various organizational and administrative aspects of counseling cases.
  • Provides consultation to faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Seeks consultation from peers and leadership for difficult clinical cases per State of Texas licensure requirements.
  • Per state licensure requirements, participates in continuing education and professional development activities related to the performance of job functions and maintenance of skills in one’s professional specialty area.
  • Serves on departmental committees and meetings, division and university committees, and other university functions.
  • Provides outreach presentations for students, faculty, and staff members about counseling services, programs, professional development topics, issues, etc.
  • Provides professional presentations at local, regional, and national conferences and workshops.
  • May provide adjunct supervision for masters and doctoral degree graduate students in counseling, counseling psychology, and graduate assistants.
  • May provide weekly supervision/training including review of recorded sessions and case review for provisionally licensed interns and/or practica students.
  • Assists with organizational and administrative tasks, as requested.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Serve as liaison with other offices.
  • Serve on committees.
  • Schedule, prepare, provide, and report on conjoint and independent mental health and wellness related outreach on campus, as needed and as approved (i.e. student messaging; design/delivery strategies on posters and bulletins; workshops; information tables; class presentations; speaking assignments; etc.)
Minimum Requirements
  • Education – Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or other specialty related to job function.
  • Experience – One year post Master's experience in college counseling center or other relevant setting.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Licensure for independent practice in the State of Texas. (LPC, LCDC).
  • Counseling and outreach experience in a university setting.
  • Experience doing veterans counseling and/or drug/alcohol counseling.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of:
    Word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Ability to:
    Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to:
    Communicate and effectively, orally and in writing.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of:
    Must possess time-management, planning, and organization skills.
  • Ability to:
    Interact effectively and professionally with the University community, general public, and the students served.
  • Ability to:
    Work independently and follow-through on all tasks.
  • Ability to:
    Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to:
    Familiarity with campus-related issues (i.e., adults, women, men, Hispanic populations, adjustment, etc.).
License/Professional Certification

Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
