Job Description

Dispatches calls for emergency and non-emergency situations for the City. Provides information to police and fire units, connects callers with City services, and files and organizes warrants as needed.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

• Sets priorities among incoming events and dispatches the police to necessary locations using both radios and computers.
• Maintains radio contact to ensure accurate status of the exact location of equipment and personnel.
• Receives and transmits telephone and radio emergency calls, as well as non-emergency calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public.
• Performs related work as required.

• Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software.
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures for emergency medical dispatch (EMD).

• U.S. Citizen
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.

• Valid Texas Identification card or Government Issued card is required at the time of job offer and hire. Must have reliable form of transportation to and from work site and is expected to arrive at work site on a timely basis.

• 40 Hour Basic Telecommunicator Certification within 6 months of employment.
• 24 hour TCIC/TLETS full access with CCH certificate within 6 months of employment.
• 4 Hour TTY or TDD Certification within 6 months of employment.
• First Aid Standard Certification within 6 months of employment.
• Adult, Child, & Infant CPR Certification within 6 months of employment.
• Cardiac Emergency Communications Certification within 6 months of employment.
• TCOLE Telecommunicator License within 6 months of employment.
