General Labor
Trains, instructs, and coordinates the daily activities of solid waste employees. Ensures the safety of operations and the daily inspection on tires, mechanical fluids, lubrication, and general truck maintenance.

- Assists supervisor on the daily operational activities of a solid waste department, including the collections, transportation, and disposal of solid waste and recyclables.
- Plans preventative maintenance work; directs and reviews the work of crew members.
- Prepares, maintains, processes, and distributes various reports, records, and other documents.
- Manages and installs global positioning system software and hardware; inspects and reports any issues.
- Records and maintains various statistical data regarding programs services, activities, and operations.
- May be required to operate heavy equipment on an as needed basis with the proper required Commercial Driver License.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software.
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and standards.
- Knowledge of the collection and disposal of solid waste.
- Knowledge of map preparation and route design.
- Skill in organization and time management.
- Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of the work.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work to be performed based on routine preventive maintenance inspections.

Physical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures
- Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work.
- Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
- Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
Position will require the employee to work in the following types of work environments
Seldom- Confined space
- Office or similar indoor environment
- Warehouse environment
- Vehicles
- Outdoor environment
- Street environment (near moving traffic)
- Construction site
Position will require the employee to be exposed to the following environmental elements
Sometimes- Individuals who are hostile or irate
- Individuals with known violent backgrounds
- Extreme cold (below 32 degrees)
- Extreme heat (above 100 degrees)
- Communicable diseases
- Moving mechanical parts
- Fumes or airborne particles
- Toxic or caustic chemicals or substances
- Loud noises (85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, construction)
Position will require the employee to travel

Education and Experience
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
- At least three (3) years of experience in solid waste operations
- Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
