Overview

At Willis Global we have the pleasure of supporting our client, a leading International Logistics & Customs Specialist, with their search for a General Manager to be based at offices in Laredo, Texas in the US.

The Company

A comprehensive logistics and customs broker providing import/export services, bonded warehousing, and freight forwarding services. They facilitate international trade between the U.S., Mexico, and Latin America, offering inventory control, labelling, and distribution services.

Job Objective

Reporting to the senior leadership team, and with 20 direct reports, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing freight forwarding and customs daily operations, ensuring service quality, driving client satisfaction, and supporting business growth. This role manages operational performance, client relationships, financial controls, and team development while ensuring compliance with industry and security standards.

Ensure that operations are correctly importing clients’ goods within established time frames, achieving operational, financial, strategic, and improvement/follow-up objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities of the General Manager Operational
  • Oversee daily shipment handling, ensuring timely completion and resolving exceptions.
  • Monitor transit times, notify clients of delays, and maintain accurate client records.
  • Ensure correct invoicing, manage overtime, and maintain documented procedures.
  • Coordinate workload during staff absences and handle special client requests.
  • Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous process improvement.
  • Participate in operational meetings, define KPIs, and analyze process deviations.
Strategic
  • Strengthen and grow business with existing clients and promote group services.
  • Improve documentation automation and present annual improvement proposals.
  • Maintain client satisfaction, retention, and compliance with IAC, ISO‑9001:2015, and C‑TPAT standards.
  • Conduct client visits, evaluate staff performance, and support hiring, training, and development.
  • Develop annual strategic growth plans and benchmark against competitors.
  • Ensure timely invoice delivery and support collections activities.
  • Monitor budgets, expenses, and revenue performance, acting on deviations.
  • Review financial reports to identify opportunities and improve profitability.
  • Participate in corporate KPI meetings and oversee insurance renewals.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of customs taxes and client billing.
Skills & Experience Required To Be Considered
  • Experience: Proven Supervisory and/or Managerial experience gained within Freight Forwarding & Customs Operations
  • Training: U.S. Customs and Transportation Regulations, Indirect Air Carrier Security Specialist
  • Skills: Planning, administration, organization, management, and client solution development
