Performs project management specialist work for Department projects. Work includes coordinating the development, implementation, maintenance, and support of the Critical Path Method (CPM) for Department projects, and providing support for resource leveling, priority development, project analysis, reporting, and training. Works directly with the project manager to help define the project’s goals and objectives. Work requires extensive contact with department staff, governmental agencies, and private entities.

Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

• Assist in developing and supporting Standard Operating Procedures for developing, maintaining, and archiving project schedules in accordance with document retention policies.
• Plan, develop, maintain, and make recommendations concerning detailed project schedules and facilitate on-time completion of projects with the optimal level of resources available.
• Support the project management team and assist with the maintenance of timely and effective change management processes, procedures, and systems.
• Analyze and report on program funding change scenarios and their impact to individual project schedules.
• Assess and report actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances.
• Assist in critical path method (CPM) software implementation and best practices.
• Monitor and report on major milestones for the project portfolio.
• Review detailed project schedules to ensure compliance with Department policies, practices, and procedures.
• Coordinate project meetings and conduct presentations.
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
• Develop and support Standard Operating Procedures for developing, maintaining, and archiving project schedules.
• Evaluate and make recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
• Identify risks, assess their impact on projects and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential impacts.
• Oversee the planning, development and maintenance of detailed project schedules and facilitate on-time completion of projects with the optimal level of resources available.
• Oversee the scheduling of all activities associated with assigned projects to produce an integrated critical path schedule, update as required and report potential problems and/or problem areas.
