Job Summary

This position is responsible for the electrical maintenance and service work in the Utilities Department.

Major Duties

* Installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.

* Tests, locates, and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment; repairs and replaces defective parts in motors, generators, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contractors, switches, and other fixtures and appliances.

* Maintain a stock of selected electrical supplies; prepare reports and maintain records.

* Services, repairs, and maintains lighting, power, and heating, as assigned.

* Performs electrical maintenance and service work.

* Installs or repairs SCADA fixtures, power outlets, and switches.

* Maintains and repairs the air conditioning unit.

* Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge of modern SCADA procedures and methods, including computers and applicable software.

* Knowledge of national electrical codes.

* Knowledge of the installation of emergency backup generators.

* Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical trade.

* Ability to meet the schedules and deadlines of the work.

* Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

* Ability to work from drawings and specifications.

* Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.

Minimum Qualifications

* Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate from an accredited institution.

* At least five (5) years of electrical work experience.

* Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License.

* Valid Texas Driver's License.

Complexity/Scope of Work

* The work consists of related electrical maintenance and repair duties. Electrical hazards contribute to the complexity of the position.

* The purpose of this position is to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems in county facilities. Success in this position ensures safe and well-maintained electrical systems.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Occasionally

* Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles.

* Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.

* Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

* Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.

* Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.

* Operating machinery and/or power tools.

* Working in low temperatures

* Working in high temperatures

* Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

* Working in noisy environments.

* Working in hazardous conditions.

* Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.

* Working in adverse environmental conditions is expected.

* Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

* Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

* Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds.

* Heavy work that includes carrying objects up to 100 pounds or more.

* Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle.

* Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

* Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Other Requirements/Information

* Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.

* Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and criminal background checks are required.

* This position is covered under Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
