Position: Mobile HVAC / Maintenance Technician

Position Overview

The Mobile Operating Engineer is a hands‑on technical role responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing building mechanical systems across multiple client properties. The role requires travel between assigned facilities to ensure optimal performance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Operations & Maintenance: Operate and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, pumps, and motors, performing preventive maintenance according to established schedules. Monitor building automation and energy management systems to identify and resolve operational issues proactively.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Respond to emergency calls and service requests, coordinate with property management and tenants, and determine when to engage contractors or vendors.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, building codes, safety standards, and environmental requirements. Maintain accurate logs of equipment operation, maintenance activities, and work orders in a computerized maintenance management system. Follow safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and personal protective equipment.
  • Multi‑Site Coordination: Travel between assigned properties, manage time and routes, prioritize work orders across locations, maintain tools and supplies on the service vehicle, and communicate status updates to facility managers and clients.
Required Qualifications
  • Education & Certification: High school diploma or equivalent, with technical training in building systems, HVAC, or related fields preferred. Valid state or universal engineer's license required. Additional certifications (EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling, boiler operator’s license, electrical certifications) may be required locally.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in building maintenance, facilities operations, or a related technical field. Experience with commercial building systems, building automation systems, and computerized maintenance management software is valuable.

    Competencies:

    Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals, effective communication for coordination with stakeholders, physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and operate in various weather conditions. Valid driver’s license with a clean record is required.
Working Conditions

Regular travel to multiple client sites within an assigned territory; work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, indoor and outdoor environments; on‑call availability for emergency response, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50+ pounds, and working at heights or in confined spaces.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Regional Facilities Manager or Service Operations Supervisor.

Estimated Compensation

62,400.00 – 80,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate; actual compensation may differ based on various considerations.

Work Shift

1st shift with on‑call rotation responsibilities.
