Performs electrical maintenance and service work. Installs or repairs lamps and fixtures, power outlets, and switches. Maintains and repairs air conditioning unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.
- Tests, locates, and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment; repairs and replaces defective parts in motors, generators, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contractors, switches, and other fixtures and appliances.
- Maintains a stock of selected electrical supplies; prepares reports and maintains records.
- Services, repairs, and maintains lighting, power, heating, and traffic lights, as assigned.
- Provides advice and guidance to individuals responsible for appliance, bulb, ballast, and light fixture repair.
- Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Knowledge of national electrical codes
- Knowledge of installation of emergency back-up generators
- Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical trade
- Skill in organization and time management
- Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Skill in the use of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the electrical trade
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Position will have the following exposures
- Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
- Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
Position will require the employee to work in the following types of work environments

- Extreme cold (below 32 degrees)

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- At least five (5) years of responsible electrical work experience
- Valid Master Electrician License from the State of Texas is required. (Copy of Master Electrician License must be attached to the application).
- Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
