Job Overview

Are you a skilled carpenter with experience in heavy civil construction? We’re looking for reliable and safety-focused carpenters to join our team on major road, bridge, and highway infrastructure projects. Primoris Heavy Civil is currently searching for experienced Heavy Civil Road Carpenters and structural form builders for our Laredo, TX project. Carpenters will be involved in the construction, installation, and fabrication of formwork structures made of wood, patent form systems, or a combination of both.

The carpenter constructs, erects, installs, fabricates, dismantles, and repairs structures, formwork, and fixtures of wood, metal forms and associated accessories. This position is hands‑on and field‑based with a focus on forming and framing concrete structures used in highways, bridges, and municipal infrastructure.

• Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Select type and size of related materials according to the job specifications.
• Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
• Select specified type of lumber or other materials.
• Prepare layouts including lines and grade.
• Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials.
• Shape materials to prescribed measurements.
• Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them together.
• Fabricate on site, then load, haul, and carry it to the job site and install per drawings, sketches, or plans.
• Place and finish concrete in formwork and set and align form panels.
• Set grout forms for epoxy and cement grout.

• One to four years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
• Written pre‑employment qualification test.
• Post‑offer drug and alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
• New Hire Orientation quiz.
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the workplace.
• Job site safety requirements as required by the client (long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.).
• Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.).

• Must be able to pass a physical examination.
• Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
• Stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, or works at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
• Able to carry 50 lbs of tool and/or materials (assistance recommended for items over 50 lbs).
• Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work extended hours on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).

Industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop.

Primoris Heavy Civil provides highway, port, airfield, rail and marine construction services to private commercial and industrial clients as well as governmental entities such as the Department of Transportation and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
