Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Overview
Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, set up, adjust, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain assigned equipment with responsibility for production and quality.
- Perform preventive maintenance, routine inspections, and ad-hoc repairs on conveyors, automation, robotics, and ancillary equipment as needed.
- Perform routine troubleshooting of out-of-service equipment; act as escalation point for lower-level technicians and escalate to leadership or more senior technicians as needed.
- Record maintenance issues in the maintenance log for each line and document all work in the CMMS/ticketing systems; maintain accurate operating logs for fire pumps, generators, HVAC equipment, and other routine-tested facility systems.
- Mentor maintenance personnel to develop appropriate skills and knowledge of equipment.
- Assist maintenance mechanics in work requiring two people or when operational needs demand.
- Perform facility/building project work as assigned (e.g., light bulb/ballast replacement, door repairs, furniture installation, ceiling tile replacement, carpentry, plumbing repairs, and maintaining operation logs).
- Assemble and test equipment to verify correct operation and production.
- Analyze and record causes of production delays on daily production reports and initiate procedures to solve equipment malfunctions.
- Examine defects and analyze spoilage causes; take corrective action and verify the effectiveness of actions taken.
- Certify on all industrial lift equipment (e.g., pickers, reaches, skates, booms, scissor lifts).
- Oversee projects as assigned, including minor space renovations, inventory management, contractor oversight, and building efficiency improvements.
- Oversee, inspect, and monitor routine maintenance provided by junior engineers; provide guidance and training as needed.
- Education
:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Work Experience
: 5 years of experience with conveyor, automation, or robotics equipment repair and maintenance.
- Associates Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC, or equivalent.
- Graduate of an apprenticeship program or hold current trade certification.
- Fundamental understanding of machinery/equipment; basic skill level in multiple computer software packages including Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with inputs, outputs, and PLC logic systems and the ability to troubleshoot these systems.
- Willingness to travel at least up to 10% of the time (within state and out of state).
- Willingness to learn new equipment as it is brought online.
- Ability to bend, twist, reach, push, and lift for extended periods; frequently move, lift, carry supplies/equipment up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
- Stand for 8 to 12 hours; work up to 6 days a week; ascend/descend from ladders and stairs; work at heights; operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift).
- Read information, including drawings, and follow safety procedures such as Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash; use PPE; maintain a safe work environment.
- Willingness to work overtime and be available for on-call requests as needed.
