Welder, G107, Road & Bridge Department

This position performs welding tasks in support of the maintenance and repair of county vehicles and equipment, as well as bridges, cattle guards, and fences.

• Performs metal fabrication and related repairs.
• Repairs and replaces cattle guards, fence gates, and playground equipment.
• Repairs truck tarps.
• Maintains shop equipment and work areas.
• Maintains parts and supply inventories.
• Responds to field breakdowns and makes field repairs.
• Prepares materials and labor estimates for assigned repairs and orders needed supplies.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
• Knowledge of mechanical welding and heat treatment procedures.
• Skill in the repair of a variety of vehicles and motorized equipment.
• Skill in the fabrication of parts.
• Skill in the use of assigned tools and equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

• Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of experience.
• Possession of appropriate welding certification is preferred.

• The work consists of related duties in the welding repair of county vehicles and equipment. The necessity of maintaining safe working conditions contributes to the complexity of the work.
• The purpose of this position is to repair county vehicles and equipment. Successful performance helps ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of county operations.

• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.
• Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
• Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business.
• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
• Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

• Moving oneself in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
• Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

• Must possess a valid and current Texas Driver's License.
• The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. job. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
• This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
