Refuse Collector; A262550-7 Sanitation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Removes garbage from residential areas and assists in the proper disposal of garbage collected.

• Empties containers into compactor on garbage truck.
• Operates hydraulic levers located on truck.
• Checks sidewalks and curbs to ensure area is clean.
• Inspects all carts for objects that may damage equipment (dirt, iron, wood or rocks).
• Picks up trash and assists with street maintenance activities as required.
• Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
• Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
• Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Machinery, equipment operation, and maintenance.

• Operation of tractors.

• Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position.

Physical Effort Requirements

• Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
• Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly when moving objects.

Exposures

• Individuals who are hostile or irate
• Individuals with known violent backgrounds
• Extreme cold (below 32 degrees)
• Extreme heat (above 100 degrees)
• Communicable diseases
• Moving mechanical parts
• Fumes or airborne particles
• Toxic or caustic chemicals or substances
• Loud noises (85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, construction)

Travel

• Never:
  Regional travel, National travel, International travel
• Often:
  Local travel

• At least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

• All selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
• Persons in safety‑sensitive functions/positions are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
