Fleet Maintenance Manager, Transportation & Logistics
VT Group / VIMAX Transportation is a cross-border transportation company specializing in freight between Mexico and the United States, with a strong operational presence in Laredo, Texas.
Our operation includes 53' dry van equipment, general cargo and hazardous materials transportation. We focus on safety, compliance, operational reliability and maintaining the equipment and processes required to support demanding cross-border operations.
We are looking for a hands-on Fleet Maintenance & Safety Coordinator to support our Laredo operation and help ensure our fleet remains safe, compliant, available and cost-efficient.
Position SummaryThe Fleet Maintenance & Safety Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, road service, fleet inspections, safety and compliance activities, vendor control, maintenance costs and daily communication with the Operations team.
This position requires strong follow-up, organization and the ability to respond quickly to equipment and safety-related issues.
Key Responsibilities Preventive & Corrective Maintenance- Schedule preventive maintenance based on mileage and time.
- Plan weekly and monthly inspections and major services.
- Identify overdue or upcoming annual inspections.
- Help prevent roadside failures through physical inspection of equipment in the yard.
- Coordinate corrective repairs and evaluate repair versus replacement based on cost.
- Coordinate immediate response to road incidents reported by drivers.
- Follow up continuously on repairs, estimated completion times and equipment availability.
- Work with approved road-service vendors and control related expenses.
- Perform physical inspections of tractors, trailers and tanks.
- Verify equipment condition, visible damage and availability.
- Report available equipment in the yard to Operations.
- Maintain visibility of units under repair, their location, status and pending maintenance.
- Maintain equipment history including failures, repairs and related costs.
- Control tires, spare parts and tools.
- Evaluate maintenance vendors based on price, response time and quality.
- Monitor maintenance and road-service costs.
- Support maintenance budgets and KPIs.
- Verify critical safety conditions including brakes, tires and lights.
- Coordinate accident investigation and follow-up involving equipment and drivers.
- Support annual DOT/NOM inspections and DVIR control.
- Coordinate driver drug-testing requirements with Operations.
- Support risk management for general freight and hazardous materials.
- Maintain clear procedures for accidents, spills, emergencies and fines.
- Work in accordance with applicable FMCSA and PHMSA requirements.
- Coordinate safety-related onboarding and training involving:
- Hours of Service (HOS)
- ELD
- Pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Safe driving practices
- Weight compliance
- Hazardous materials handling
- Labels and documentation
- Loading and unloading procedures
- Emergency response
- Work closely with Dispatch and Operations regarding:
- Maintenance priorities
- Driver HOS issues
- Equipment downtime and repair status
We are looking for someone who understands that fleet maintenance is not only about repairing trucks. It is about preventing failures, maintaining safe equipment, controlling costs and keeping the operation moving.
- Highly organized and proactive.
- Comfortable working directly with drivers, vendors and Operations.
- Strong at follow-up and problem solving.
- Cost-conscious and able to evaluate repair alternatives.
- Familiar with commercial vehicle maintenance and safety requirements.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving transportation environment.
- Able to manage priorities when unexpected roadside or equipment issues arise.
- Experience with U.S. trucking operations, fleet maintenance, DOT compliance, FMCSA requirements and hazardous materials transportation is highly valued.
