St. Johns County Public Library System, SJCPLS, encourages a love of literature, the arts, and lifelong learning by providing a variety of information, resources, and entertainment to the community. SJCPLS serves all areas of St. Johns County, including St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fruit Cove, and Hastings. The Library System has six branches, two bookmobiles, and offers books-by-mail service.

In addition to books, periodicals, and online databases, SJCPLS offers computer access, notary services, Inter-Library Loan, access to a Seed Library, test proctoring, and many volunteer opportunities. The Library System also offers a dynamic range of programming for adults, teens, and children.

Employees work in a team-oriented environment and are responsible for assisting with library circulation, youth, and adult service areas.

We are looking to fill two of our library vacancies. One vacancy is at our Bartram Trail Library Branch for a Youth Services Librarian. This position’s primary responsibility is to develop and deliver engaging programs and services for children and teens, requiring creativity, knowledge of youth literature, and the ability to foster early literacy and lifelong learning in young patrons.  The second vacancy is at the Anastasia Island Library Branch for a Reference Services Librarian.

This position’s primary responsibility is to provide expert assistance in research, information retrieval, and reference resources for patrons, requiring strong skills in information literacy, database navigation, and advanced research techniques.
** ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
*** Oversees daily operation of the children, young adult, and/or reference sections.
* Assists with the daily operations of an assigned library branch.
* Assists the public with informational and circulation needs.
* Resolves patron questions, concerns or complaints.
* Maintains an awareness of library trends and issues; reads professional and related literature; attends workshops, seminars and conferences; maintains professional affiliations.
* Assists with the collection and compilation of statistics; prepares monthly and other reports.
* Serves as liaison to the Friends of the Library support group and to other community and business organizations.
* Responsible for branch collection maintenance.
* Develops and implements adult and/or youth programming.
* Assists with public relations and publicity operations for the library.
* Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
** ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
*** Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science.
* Prior working experience applying professional library principles, methods, practices and materials to public service work.
* Minimum of at least one (1) year of relevant work experience or completion of an associated apprenticeship/internship.
* Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
* Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
* Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
* Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
* Must be able to operate a computer.
** ESSENTIAL SKILLS
*** Knowledge of current and emerging trends and practices in library management, services and development.
