Instructional position responsible for the educational leadership of students in a group or class in a middle school. The educational leader is expected to use the Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Improvement (CIAI) model to maximize achievement for all students, create a safe, secure, and respectful learning climate, and implement a Baldridge‑based system to efficiently manage the classroom.
Responsibilities- Understand central concepts, inquiry tools, and disciplinary structures and make the subject matter meaningful to students.
- Develop a culture of openness, fairness, mutual respect, support, and inquiry.
- Engage every student in middle‑school grade‑level learning experiences that promote performance.
- Listen and interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community members, respecting diverse perspectives.
- Demonstrate respect for students, colleagues, administrators, and parents.
- Model and reinforce self‑discipline and responsibility.
- Work effectively with school colleagues, parents, and the community to support students’ learning and well‑being.
- Provide professional leadership to establish a culture conducive to learning and student diversity; involve students in developing mission and goals that support the School Improvement Plan; use data for continual improvement.
- Utilize student information systems to plan instruction and ensure every student masters essential knowledge and skills as outlined in the Sunshine State Standards (SSS), Pinellas County Schools Student Expectations (PCSSE), and course descriptions.
- Develop and implement a strategic planning system, including course, unit, and lesson plans.
- Provide opportunities for students to demonstrate appropriate middle‑school progress toward graduation expectations (knowledgeable, lifelong learner, responsible individual, effective communicator, problem solver, collaborative team worker, and self‑directed learner).
- Understand customer expectations of the state, district, school, and next grade level and maintain positive customer relations following Board Policy.
- Provide students and parents with timely data for improvement in student achievement.
- Collect, aggregate, maintain, and monitor customer satisfaction data to help improve learning.
- Use formal and informal assessment strategies to determine whether students have achieved high standards and modify instructional strategies as needed to maximize achievement.
- Systematically obtain information and analyze classroom results using the Plan‑Do‑Study‑Act (PDSA) process to research, evaluate, design, and deliver coaching for student learning; monitor and communicate trend, benchmark, and comparison data about learning.
- Understand how middle‑school students learn and provide learning opportunities that support intellectual, social, and personal development of diverse learners.
- Establish and maintain a safe and secure classroom environment.
- Manage student misconduct promptly and resolve conflict and crises effectively.
- Promote an independent and collaborative work ethic.
- Develop and manage human resources within the classroom by maintaining a professional development plan and engaging in professional development activities; recognize students and parents for contributions to goal achievement.
- Use teaching and learning strategies that reflect each student’s culture, learning styles, special needs, and socioeconomic background.
- Seek resources necessary to achieve classroom and school goals, such as course materials that match students’ reading levels.
- Employ classroom processes that support effective teaching and learning, promoting high student achievement by designing lessons that keep all students engaged through active learning, hands‑on application, and student‑student and student‑teacher conversations.
- Use appropriate technology in teaching and learning processes.
- Develop and manage instructional and operational processes with the students to create a high‑performing classroom learning system.
- Demonstrate positive classroom results and trends.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university.
- Possession of, or eligibility for, a Florida teaching certificate for the level and subject area to be taught.
