The Learning Center – Full-time Teacher

Palms of Largo Senior Living campus, Largo, FL

We are hiring a Full-time Teacher to implement the infant, toddler, or preschool program and provide general supervision and management of a group of children. The Learning Center offers a preschool and day‑care program for children from eight weeks through pre‑K in an engaging, interactive, and intergenerational learning environment. Collaborative intergenerational experiences occur daily, connecting children with senior “grand friends” from the Palms of Largo community.

$16.50 – $18.50 per hour (must have CDA)

Requirements

Must have CDA and 45 clock hours completed. Prior experience working in childcare within Pinellas County, FL is required.

Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to implement the infant, toddler, or preschool program and to provide general supervision and management of a group of children.

Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of each child through developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Write objectives for the group.
  • Prepare and post weekly lesson plans and submit a copy to the director one week before teaching.
  • Post all curriculum information, schedule, and menus for parents.
  • Engage children and encourage participation in group activities.
  • Adapt the program to individual child needs, interests, special needs, and learning styles.
  • Plan and supervise age‑appropriate class outings and field trips.
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual or group behavior/illness, keeping co‑workers and the director informed.
  • Ensure daily attendance notes are completed.
  • Keep accurate attendance and progress records, including written comments on each child’s development.
  • Communicate professional observations to teammates and parents, participating in formal conferences at least twice a year.
  • Maintain good communication with parents through verbal, written, or phone contact; discuss sensitive issues with the director first.
  • Actively supervise and ensure the safety and wellbeing of children at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Know the group size and location of each child at all times and never leave a child unattended.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for other staff.
  • Train and supervise aides, assistants, substitutes, and new co‑workers.
  • Apply progressive discipline consistently and model appropriate positive behavior guidelines.
  • Collaborate with program staff to solve problems, achieve goals, and communicate needs respectfully.
  • Handle educational resource materials, equipment, and classroom atmosphere; communicate program needs to the director.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned rooms or areas, including vacuuming, mopping, and counter‑top cleaning.
  • Share responsibility for building and ground cleanliness under the director’s supervision.
  • Be flexible to staffing needs; understand that hours may change with enrollment and program demands.
  • Monitor staff‑to‑child ratio and inform the director of significant changes.
  • Assist in building evacuation during emergencies and respond promptly to emergency situations.
  • Comply with universal precautions and infection control guidelines.
  • Adhere to licensing regulations and all program policies and procedures.
  • Attend professional workshops and required in‑service training for human services.
  • Attend all staff meetings and participate in program and family events.
