Prince George’s County Department of the Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Senior Engineer (Engineer III), grade G29 position, in the Stormwater Management Division/Capital Projects Design Section.

This is a senior level professional engineering and administrative position in the Stormwater Management Division. It involves the application of advanced engineering principles and practices and basic administrative techniques in the development, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of stormwater management drainage systems and flood control facilities. The work performed requires sound professional engineering judgement and responsible project management of budget and schedules.
The position performs work in a team environment and has responsibility for training and evaluation of lower-level technical engineering personnel under the general supervision of higher-level engineering or management personnel. This position reports directly to a higher-level engineering supervisor, under the Capital Projects Section Head.
The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Core services include clean water services, flooding prevention for buildings and structures, waste collection and processing from the County-operated landfill and commercial facilities, sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emissions, and pet services.
Responsibilities- Utilizes the principles and practices of civil engineering, planning, and environmental science related to water resources, including stormwater management and drainage conveyance systems.
- Reviews and completes evaluations of submitted stormwater management water quality, storm drain, or other drainage systems and flood control design plans, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely completion.
- Ensures all designs comply with the latest accepted engineering design standards of the County, State, and Federal regulatory agencies.
- Reviews, evaluates, and directs technical methodology appropriate for hydraulic analysis of water quality, storm drainage, and flood abatement design studies.
- Undertakes and keeps on schedule the assigned design projects, overseeing Capital Improvement Projects performed by consultants.
- Prepares and coordinates feasibility studies, sketches, and preliminary cost estimates for special projects being considered for improvements.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with representatives of other governmental agencies, elected officials, the general public, and neighborhood residents; attends and engages in meetings with multiple stakeholders and represents the Department’s goals and missions.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering field (e.g., civil, stormwater, hydraulic, hydrologic, environmental, transportation, architectural, mechanical, fire protection, agricultural, agronomy, chemical, industrial, construction) and three (3) years of progressive professional engineering experience in the appropriate field.
