Job Title: Surgical Technician
Company: The Eye Institute of West Florida - Ambulatory Surgery Center
Location: Largo, FL
Travel: Travel to our other office in St. Petersburg, FL is required as needed. We do pay mileage reimbursement!

- Our offices are open Monday-Friday 7am-5pm.
- You may need to work a little earlier/later as needed.
- The schedule will require you to work on Mondays and Wednesdays, plus possibly one other day when needed
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- At least one year of surgical experience is required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Favorable result on background check required
- Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
Job Description
DEPARTMENT: Operating Room (OR)
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
Ability to assist in surgical operations under the supervision of Surgeons, Registered Nurses and Surgical Assistants. Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and company policies and procedures. Assists the Nurses and Surgeons in delivering the highest standard of patient care available.

- Interpersonal / Teamwork – Demonstrates a positive, friendly and courteous manner; maintains a professional attitude; communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other staff; works well within a team; adheres to HIPAA regulations.
- Job Knowledge / Responsibilities – Performs duties ethically and legally within the scope of certification; scrub skills for all types of cases; anticipates surgeon needs and ensures equipment, gases, and supplies are available; adheres to schedule; participates in continued education/in-service training, staff meetings, and QA/PI programs; contributes to a healthy work environment; assists in orientation of new staff as needed.
- Knowledge of central and sterile supply; opens sterile packs; prepares instruments; assists in room setup; maintains records of medications, specimens, implants, and related items; passes instruments; may assist with suturing and counts; prepares and disposes specimens; operates sterilizer and OR equipment; assists with patient transfer to PACU; assists with cleaning and restocking; supports safe operation under supervision; preps, drapes, and positions patients;
prepares case according to surgeon’s preference card; gathers supplies; maintains dexterity with instruments; remains emotionally stable in the OR environment. - Attendance – Arrives to work area on time with minimal absences.

- Knowledge of Amkai Charts Database software and Microsoft Word
- Printer, copier, telephone, and fax skills
The employee must be able to:
- Walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods
- Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally push up to 200 pounds
- Occasionally assist with moving patients up to 400-500 pounds
- Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel and climb
- Regular exposure to blood and body substances
- Potential exposure to needle sticks
- Works in well-lit and ventilated environments including operating rooms and related areas
