Position: Senior Cyber Security Engineer - VPM Team (Onsite)

Overview

The Starburst Engineering Department, located in Largo, FL, is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Engineer to contribute to the development and deployment of Cyber Security solutions on the Starburst program. The candidate will be integrated into a multi-discipline team environment, with representation from System Engineers, Software Engineers, Cyber Engineers, Digital Technology, and Field Services. Primary responsibilities involve implementing and sustaining requirements for deployed products and services that are in operational and sustainment states.

Responsibilities
  • Operate within a custom, air‑gapped Department of Defense IT network daily to perform advanced support and direct deployment of new capabilities.
  • Create and present materials to convey concepts and ideas to a wide range of audiences.
  • Maintain, update, and document system schematics and operational guides and procedures.
  • Interface with other teams to define, determine, and implement cyber risk posture, mitigation, and information assurance across the enterprise IT service portfolio.
  • Work primarily onsite in a closed area environment with occasional opportunity to work offsite.
  • Support up to 10% travel as required.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Solid background in Systems Administration using Linux and Windows desktop and server operating systems (Windows
    11/Server
    2022/RHEL).
  • Experience with enterprise configuration and patch management using automated tools such as Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) and WSUS.
  • Understanding of traditional and current on‑prem enterprise IT systems and their impact on security, including ICAM, secure enterprise messaging, enterprise logging ingest, cyber situational awareness, and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR).
  • Active DoD 8570 IAT LevelII certification (e.g., CISSP and/or Security+) and ability to maintain it.
  • Active, transferable Top Secret U.S. government‑issued security clearance with SCI eligibility required prior to start date.
  • Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 5years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree and minimum 3years of experience.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Enterprise Identity Management applications and design, including LDAP (e.g., Active Directory) and PKI.
  • Experience with various computing hardware and software platforms, including servers, workstations, and COTS software applications.
  • Experience maintaining Windows servers and troubleshooting software applications.
  • Experience with enterprise firewalls and knowledge of firewall policies/rulesets.
