The Prince George's County Fire / Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Public Information Officer (Community Services Manager-G) position, grade G31, in the Community Relations and Public Information Office.

About the Position

This is senior level professional and supervisory journalistic and media relations work involving the preparation and dissemination of information to inform the internal/external communities of the services, project status and operations of assigned agencies via prepared and presented reports and publications. The role involves identifying and overseeing agency informational initiatives, developing strategies to address identified agency needs, and ensuring project plan enactment through agency coordination and supervision of subordinates.

The mission of the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is to serve our communities with excellence by providing the highest quality of risk reduction, fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and all-hazards response services to enhance the quality of life.

  • Serves as information and media relations point of contact for assigned departments and agencies.
  • Exercises supervisory duties over subordinate positions.
  • Oversees agency informational initiatives.
  • Recommends personnel actions and establishes programmatic goals and implements objectives.
  • Supervises work of subordinates engaged in public information and communication activities.
  • Represents the assigned County agency to external departments and intergovernmental groups.
  • Develops strategies to address agency information dissemination needs.
  • Leads strategic informational and communication planning for agency services and initiatives.
  • Researches and develops information and communication policy.
  • Ensures information dissemination project plan enactment.
  • Produces County agency newsletters, including researching, writing, editing articles, coordinating with contributing departments and graphics designers, reviewing and proofreading, and adhering to deadlines.
  • Maintains liaison with department/agency program directors to assess publicity needs.
  • Monitors and edits agency's website and digital communication platforms for style, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Plans and executes dissemination programs to inform the public about agency initiatives.
  • Conducts agency informational presentations to County agencies and executives.
  • Prepares communications and responds to inquiries for dignitaries and others seeking information about the agency.
  • Coordinates arrangements for agency information dissemination activities and press conferences.
  • Manages agency website and digital communication platforms.
  • Performs additional tasks within the occupational category and responsibility level that are not specifically listed but are required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business or public administration or related field.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience, including three (3) years in a managerial capacity.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may be considered, but there is no equivalency for managerial experience.
