Position: Registered Nurse, Pre-Op/Post-Op/Operating Room - Part-time - NO Weekends or Late Nights!

Job Title: Registered Nurse, Pre‑Op / Post‑Op / Operating Room
Company: The Eye Institute of West Florida Surgery Center
Location: Largo, FL
Travel: Travel to our other office in St. Petersburg will be required as needed. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

Hours
  • Part‑time: 2–3 days per week, usually Monday and Wednesday, with the possibility of a third day as needed.
  • Office hours Monday–Friday 7:00 am–5:00 pm; occasional earlier or later shifts may be required.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • At least one year of OR experience (Scrub and/or Circulating) preferred.
  • Favorable result on Background Check.
Summary

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State, and accreditation standards and ASC policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under his/her direction. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct patient care in an individual Operating Room.
  • Ensure proper techniques and practices in accordance with accepted standards of practice.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations and be knowledgeable of patient rights.
  • Perform duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of the RN license.
  • Supervise other personnel in the room and provide assistance as necessary.
  • Immediately report any unusual occurrences to charge personnel and document appropriately in the patient record.
  • Demonstrate primary nursing accountability through coordination, communication, and continuity of patient care.
  • Assess, prioritize, plan, and implement patient care effectively.
  • Maintain medical records accurately and legibly.
  • Participate in continuing education/in-service training, staff meetings, and the Q.A.P.I. program.
  • Follow physician orders and directions from management.
  • Actively participate in the development of a healthy work environment.
  • Assist in training new staff as needed.
  • Balance team and individual responsibilities.
  • Recognize each department’s significance and work appropriately with other departments.
Circulator Role
  • Perform scrub duties as necessary.
  • Maintain counts on sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no loss of items.
  • Perform all circulating duties efficiently.
  • Supervise and assist the Scrub Nurse as needed.
  • Position patient, prepare operative area, and adjust table according to standard policies.
  • Ensure all supplies and equipment are in the room and provide to the team as needed.
  • Open all sterile packs and supplies according to aseptic technique.
  • Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed.
  • Observe patient for changes in condition.
  • Review surgeon’s preference cards for desired medications and verify with the surgeon.
  • Ensure all medications are administered and charted according to established policies and procedures.
  • Identify and record patient’s response to medications when necessary.
  • Care for specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures.
  • Accompany patient to PACU and give report to the Post‑Op Nurse.
  • Assist in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  • Record use of equipment and method directed.
  • Check rooms, material, and equipment for proper care and handling.
  • Ensure clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and aseptic techniques.
  • Assist in controlling traffic and personnel to ensure proper infection control and asepsis.
