Johns County! St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners are seeking individuals to fill seasonal Lifeguards positions to staff St. Johns County Beaches.
St. Johns County is located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. St. Johns County is located in the northeast part of the State and is bordered by the St. Johns River to the west and 42 miles of ocean to the east. St. Johns County Lifeguards are responsible for actively guarding 11 miles of beaches and providing emergency response to the remaining areas.

St. Johns County Lifeguards work under the direct supervision of St. Johns County Fire Rescue Officers assigned to the Marine Rescue Division.  St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) currently employs 400 full time personnel and hire an additional 80 seasonal personnel to fill both tower lifeguard and lifeguard supervisor positions. St. Johns County Lifeguards responds to calls for service including swimmers in distress, boat rescues, medical and traumatic emergencies and missing person incidents.

St. Johns County is a certified by the United States Lifesaving Association as an Advanced Open Water Lifesaving Agency and Personal Watercraft Training Agency.#
** Examples of Duties:
*** Provides surveillance and protection of individuals within assigned area including but not limited to water surveillance, response to medical and aquatic emergencies, and assistance to missing persons.
* Administers appropriate patient care in emergency situations based upon department protocols and procedures.
* Protects life and property through safe and effective marine rescue techniques utilizing specialized training and equipment.
* Assists in performing scheduled mechanical inspections of all rescue, medical and other equipment in an assigned unit; assists with replenishment, replacement and repairs; documents and notifies supervisor of operational defects.
* Operates vehicles in a safe and lawful manner and according to department policies and procedures.
* Participates in required training.
* Assists in the completion EMS reports and Rescue reports.
* Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
* Performs other duties as assigned.# #

* Minimum Qualifications:

*** Minimum of 18 years of age
* Valid Driver’s License
* Able to pass a pre-employment physical.
* Able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
* Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
* Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
* Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
* Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
* Must be able to operate a computer.

All first-year employees are required to attend the Marine Rescue Training Academy where they are provided with all the required training for employment including CPR for the professional rescuer, Advanced Open Water Lifesaving, Emergency Medical Responder.
In addition, individuals are able to obtain their Emergency Vehicle Operator certification and Personal Watercraft Operator certification.  We pride ourselves on being a progressive, professional fire rescue department dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of the community.  All returning lifeguards are required to complete 24 28hours of annual recurrent training in order to be eligible for employment. Salary Range:$18.11 -$20.51
