This is an excellent opportunity to join an experienced facilities team in a varied, hands-on role where you'll play an important part in ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant and fully operational.
The Role Reporting to the Mechanical & Electrical Works Supervisor, the Building Compliance Officer will be responsible for carrying out inspections, statutory testing and compliance checks across a portfolio of public buildings. You will help ensure all maintenance records are accurately maintained and support the delivery of planned preventative maintenance programmes.
Key responsibilities include:
Carrying out routine inspections and statutory compliance checks across multiple properties. Testing and recording emergency lighting, fire alarms, intruder alarms, fire safety equipment, emergency exits and water hygiene systems. Maintaining accurate maintenance records, certificates and building logbooks using electronic systems. Carrying out minor maintenance tasks identified during inspections. Recording utility meter readings and monitoring building services. Checking and resetting heating, ventilation, alarm and access control systems.
Organising access for external contractors and monitoring work completed on site. Supporting health and safety compliance by completing risk assessments and following safe systems of work. Delivering guidance and training to building users on alarms, access controls and fire procedures. Assisting with condition surveys and planned maintenance programmes. Liaising with contractors and emergency services where required. Travelling between sites across the borough as part of the role.
Providing flexible support, including occasional evenings, weekends and public holidays where required.
The Person
Essential Criteria Applicants should meet one of the following: A minimum of 5 GCSEs (including Maths and English) or equivalent plus 2 years' experience in a building maintenance or facilities environment. OR 4 years' experience within a building maintenance or facilities environment. You should also have experience of:
Carrying out building inspections and compliance monitoring. Monitoring, recording and reporting maintenance or compliance data. Surveying buildings and maintaining accurate maintenance records. Successfully testing at least three of the following:
Emergency lighting Fire alarm systems Intruder alarms Fire-fighting equipment Legionella/domestic hot water systems Emergency door operation Working with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Using IT systems to record information accurately. Holding a full UK driving licence (or access to suitable transport to fulfil the role).
