The Department of Biology at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with a specialization in microbiology at the assistant professor level. The successful applicant will carry out basic, applied, or translational research on the role of microbe-host interactions in health or disease. Individuals who use vertebrate animal models within this research area are especially encouraged to apply.

The position includes 9-month salary, start-up funding and laboratory space. The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field, at least one year of post-doctoral training, a robust record of publication and/or external funding commensurate with experience, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate education at the time of application.
The applicant will be expected to establish a vigorous, independent research program, secure extramural funding, offer lecture and laboratory courses in microbiology and medical microbiology at the upper and lower undergraduate level (majors and non-majors) as well as graduate courses in their area of expertise. The applicant must be able to guide undergraduate and graduate student research, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and support departmental functions.
