New Mexico State University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Applied Artificial Intelligence. Faculty will join an interdisciplinary cluster hire and be affiliated with NMSU's new Institute for Applied Practice in AI and Machine Learning.
We seek an AI generalist focused on the teaching, learning, and educational integration of AI. Areas of scholarship may include AI pedagogy, curriculum design, flexible credentialing, responsible AI education, workforce development, and teaching AI to students, educators, professionals, and community members.
Responsibilities- Conduct innovative research on AI education, curriculum, credentialing, and integration.
- Develop a productive, externally funded research program.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in AI and its applications.
- Collaborate across disciplines to integrate AI into academic programs.
- Develop AI-focused microcredentials, certificates, and flexible learning pathways.
- Deliver AI training and workforce-development programs within and beyond the university.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Contribute to professional, institutional, and community service.
- Support the Institute's educational activities and advance NMSU's leadership in AI education across New Mexico and the region.
- A Ph.D. by the time of hire in a relevant field, such as AI, computer or computational science, learning sciences, education, or an AI-related applied field.
- Expertise in AI education, curriculum development, credentialing, pedagogy, or educational integration.
- Evidence of scholarly productivity or strong research potential in AI education, curriculum, or pedagogy.
- Experience or potential to secure external funding for AI or computing education research and programs.
- Commitment to excellent teaching, curriculum development, and student mentoring.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Developing microcredentials, certificates, or professional training.
- Integrating AI into non-computing curricula.
- Teaching or researching responsible AI.
- Supporting students from varied educational and professional backgrounds.
- Building workforce-development, community-education, or interdisciplinary partnerships.
