A Day in the LifeOur Senior Air Quality Engineer/Scientist position would be focused on New Mexico air permitting and compliance and based in New Mexico.
As a key member of the Permitting and Compliance Team, you will be reporting to the Senior Associate Scientist in charge of New Mexico permitting and compliance services and will work on a team of ten professionals. Our clients in the New Mexico regions include construction industries, mining, utilities, and manufacturers.
This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including air permitting, emission inventories, air dispersion modeling and health risk assessment, compliance management programs, compliance/field audits, regulatory development, project management, and project budgeting.
The annual salary range for this role is $90,000 to $115,000 commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
Responsibilities- Plan multiple projects simultaneously, including serving as the senior technical lead on a project, supervising staff‑level professionals and technicians.
- Estimate personnel needs, assign work, meet completion dates, and interpret and ensure consistent application of firm standards.
- Coordinate the day‑to‑day operations of technical staff by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance.
- Oversee development of project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations in a logical and professional manner.
- Consult with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments.
- Exercise judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
- Be responsible for project budget and hours and utilize time effectively to complete tasks within assigned time frames.
- Act as a client manager to understand customer needs and distribute work assignments and proposals to appropriate teams.
- Communicate to leadership when issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Keep up‑to‑date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a science field.
- Master of Science in environmental studies, business administration, or a similar field – desirable but not required.
- Minimum of nine years of direct experience, including project and client management and complex air quality permitting assignments in New Mexico.
- Ability to perform air dispersion modeling and health risk assessment.
- Other environmental media experience, such as stormwater, wastewater, or hazardous material, is a plus but not required.
- Understanding of states outside New Mexico is a plus but not required.
