Role Description The Mortgage Loan Originator is a full-time, on-site role based in Las Cruces, NM. In this position, the individual will consult with prospective and existing customers to understand their home financing needs, explain mortgage products, and guide them through the loan application process. Day-to-day responsibilities include originating mortgage loans, gathering and verifying borrower documentation, coordinating with underwriting and processing teams, and ensuring loans comply with regulatory and internal policy requirements.
The Mortgage Loan Originator will actively develop and maintain referral relationships with real estate professionals and other community partners, while providing clear, timely communication to borrowers throughout the loan cycle. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, meeting production and quality targets, and representing First American Bank NM’s values and standards in all customer interactions.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess skills in Mortgage Lending and Loan Origination, with experience guiding borrowers through the full mortgage process.
- Candidates should possess skills in Underwriting and Loans, including evaluating financial information and ensuring compliance with lending policies and regulations.
- Candidates should possess skills in Finance, with the ability to analyze credit, income, assets, and collateral to recommend appropriate loan products.
- Strong customer service, relationship-building, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts in clear terms.
- Proven ability to meet sales and production goals while maintaining high standards of accuracy and ethics.
- Knowledge of residential mortgage products, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with loan origination systems, general computer applications, and basic office software.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in business, finance, or a related field is beneficial.
- Prior experience as a Mortgage Loan Originator or in a similar lending role within a bank or mortgage company is strongly preferred.
