Works closely with the Las Cruces Fire department and Community Health Coordinator to mitigate risk for the community. Provides in-field services to high-need community members, executes assessments, utilizes evidence-based practices and therapies for intervention and treatment, and makes referrals as needed.
Environmental FactorsWork is performed in a standard office environment, in various community facilities, and in client homes where various hazards may exist. Exposure to all weather and traffic conditions when traveling. Protective clothing is available and may be required.
Physical FactorsModerately heavy physical requirements, including ability to occasionally move a person weighing up to 200 pounds, carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work Situation FactorsMay be exposed to various weather and situational hazards. Various levels of mental application required. Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, frequent work at night, beyond normal business hours. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policy.

Responsibilities- Performs comprehensive assessments of clients in-home and in-field based on client needs; provides mental health screenings, biophysical assessments, and health evaluations; determines treatment plans based on results.
- Uses evidence-based practices and therapies to support mental and behavioral health crisis; intervenes to de-escalate situations reducing number of police and ambulance transports.
- Evaluates scenes and makes determinations regarding client safety, medical needs, transport requirements, and facility care; supports fire and medical personnel to mitigate trauma and de-escalate situations.
- Advocates for client well-being and refers to appropriate service providers; coordinates services and offers support for clients needing emergency room treatment, or other help; performs consistent follow up to manage case load and ensure service to community members.
- Works with various agencies within the community and participates in meetings with stakeholders to build partnerships and establish and maintain client care; promotes stakeholder engagement and education within the community.
- Instructs, educates, and trains interns; assists and supports coworkers with difficult and or unusual assignments; identifies, determines, and encourages innovative solutions to problems.
- Documents and records interactions within the community to provide data for the Community Risk Reduction program and processes; accurately documents assessments within state guidelines and licensing requirements.
- Tracks and identifies trends in referrals to better understand community requirements and needs; advocates for changes and adjustments to better serve the community.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field PLUS minimum of one (1) year of relevant clinical or field experience. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Licenses/CertificationsValid driver’s license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Las Cruces policies. Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW); or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC); or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT);
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); or Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LPCMHC); or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) certification is required. CPR and First Aid certifications are desirable. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are desirable.
