Overview
New Mexico State University (NMSU) seeks a transformational and experienced human resources executive to serve as its Assistant Vice President for Human Resources. New Mexico State University (NMSU) was founded in 1888 and is New Mexico’s land grant institution and a comprehensive research university dedicated to teaching, research, public service, and outreach at all levels. New Mexico State University’s main campus is located in Las Cruces, NM, and sits on 900 acres. NMSU’s campuses and online programs serve more than 22,000 students from across the U.S. and 89 foreign countries.
NMSU is a NASA Space Grant College, a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI), a minority-serving institution (MSI), and home to the first Honors College in New Mexico. The Assistant Vice President for Human Resources (AVPHR) will join the University at a time of forward momentum and change. With the recent appointment of President Valerio Ferme (), and an institutional strategic planning process on the horizon, the AVPHR has the opportunity to collaborate with and support the President and other senior leaders in the development and implementation of a bold vision for the future of the University.
The AVPHR will be charged with shaping a service and solution-oriented strategy for human resources that charts a path for the future and further establishes the function as a value-added and strategic resource for the community. Areas of opportunity include but are not limited to creating efficiencies, optimizing technology, and elevating service delivery, building and deepening collaborative relationships across the academic enterprise, advancing a comprehensive classification and market-driven compensation program, establishing training and development opportunities for managers, enhancing onboarding programming, and shaping a performance management strategy grounded in a framework of coaching, development and accountability.
The incoming AVPHR will serve as an institutional change agent, crafting a culture of collaboration and agility within the human resources organization and advancing its capacity to grow and evolve to meet the human capital needs of the University. The successful candidate will bring experience envisioning, designing, and implementing strategies to enhance service delivery, streamlining business processes, optimizing technology, and cultivating connections with colleagues across the organization.
An understanding of best practices and having an eye for new possibilities and emerging challenges in the rapidly changing higher education environment will be critical to this leader’s success. As a result, the AVPHR will establish human capital partnerships, programs, and services to meet the needs of today’s NMSU employees and anticipate and prepare to meet tomorrow’s workforce needs in support of the institution’s strategic priorities.
